FAQs?
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Adult Ballet Dancers
Am I too old to start ballet?
No way! Ballet is ageless! Whether you’re starting for the first time or coming back after a break, we’ve got classes that’ll make you feel right at home. So, get those ballet flats (or cotton socks) ready!
Do I need prior dance experience to join an adult ballet class?
Not at all! We welcome everyone, from total beginners to seasoned pros. Our classes are perfect for all experience levels. Plus, our experienced dancers love helping newbies. So, come join the fun and embrace the beauty of ballet!
What level of physical fitness is required?
Our classes cater to all fitness levels. Whether you’re a fitness fanatic or just getting started, our teachers will adjust the exercises to suit you. Come as you are and let’s dance!
What if I have a pre-existing injury or health condition?
Safety first! Consult your healthcare provider before starting classes. Let your teacher know about any limitations so we can make adjustments. We’re here to support you and make sure you dance safely and comfortably.
What do I wear in my ballet class?
Starting ballet as an adult is an exciting adventure! Here’s what you can expect:
1. What To Wear:
Attire:
Wear form-fitting clothes that let you move freely. We suggest you wear long leggings/ tights/ yoga pants, a fitted tee shirt / top or singlet, and if you don’t have a pair of ballet flats, socks without rubber soles work just fine. Traditional ballet attire, including leotard, tights, ballet flats, is purely optional. Light layers are great since you’ll warm up quickly!
Hair:
Tie long hair in a bun or ponytail to keep it out of your face.
I’m an adult beginner dancer, what should I expect in my first ballet class?
Class Structure:
Introduction:
We suggest for your first class you arrive at least 10 minutes earlier so your teacher can introduce themselves and help get you sorted with where our changing rooms and bathrooms are.
Your teacher will start the class, clearly demonstrating every exercise with a slow warm up and traditional ballet exercises to prepare your body at the ballet barre.
Barre Work:
Basic exercises like pliés, tendus, and battements to help you build strength and technique with lots of audio and physical cues to help you throughout your class.
Center Work:
Move to the center for more exercises and simple jumps.
Across the Floor:
Your class will include some simple yet beautifully choreographed traveling steps across the room. Enjoy moving your body through space to music!
Cool Down:
You’ll end your class with gentle stretching to prevent soreness and improve your flexibility.
Reverence:
You will learn the traditional bow or curtsy given in a ballet class, which signifies the end of your session. It is a gracious way to thank your teacher and classmates and for them to thank and pay respect to you!
Added Bonus:
As a beginner dancer, if you join our Tuesday 10:00am or Thursday 10:30am adult ballet class, you get a bonus 15-minute sneak peek!
Stick around and watch the intermediate and advanced dancers in action. It’s a great way to see where your newfound skills can take you in the future!
